SUSTAINABILITY
Firenze Fiera has always been committed to improving its social and economic sustainability performance and reducing the environmental impact associated with the organisation and conduct of events and major fairs and congresses through the implementation of best practices that respect and protect the environment.
Thanks to this commitment, Firenze Fiera has obtained the prestigious ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management, in addition to the ISO 14004 (environment) and ISO 45001 (health and safety) certifications. This certification makes it one of the first congress and exhibition centres in Italy to achieve this recognition, which certifies its commitment to the social, economic, and environmental management of events, from the design and planning phases to delivery and post-event management.
To achieve this goal, an internal sustainability committee was created to reduce the event's environmental impact and promote sustainable best practices through the involvement of all stakeholders.
Here is some information and initiatives we are sharing. Your participation is essential to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly event.

Why organise a sustainable event?
A sustainable event is no longer a choice but a fundamental necessity. A unique experience for both visitors and the planet.
Each of us can make a concrete contribution to making our planet more sustainable through our daily actions, and you can do so at Castanea Expo.
Help us respect the environment, create value for the community, and spread a culture of inclusion.
Become an active part of our commitment to a better future for all.
We kindly invite you to use the dedicated collectors located in various areas inside the pavilions.

Furthermore, at the entrance of the Fortezza da Basso – Porta Santa Maria Novella Gate – a “Plastic Eater” compactor was installed to compact and recycle bottles, reducing the abandonment of waste and encouraging the culture of recycling.
Digital tickets, complete with barcode, help reduce environmental impact by avoiding the use of paper.
With the support and co-operation of our partner Gerist Ricevimenti, we collect and donate surplus food during the event. Firenze Fiera has been involved for years in a project to raise awareness about food waste and collect surplus food. The recovered food is then donated to charitable organisations (family homes, soup kitchens, etc.).
We recommend asking for adequate portions of food to reduce waste.
The event is designed with an inclusive approach to ensure it is accessible to all, and takes into account the different needs of all potential participants: people with disabilities.
Thanks to the support and co-operation of our service provider, Cooperativa l'Orologio, we use Ecolabel (EU Ecolabel) products for cleaning the exhibition spaces; the paper in the restrooms is made with raw materials from sustainably managed forests and controlled sources (PEFC/FSC) or Ecolabel.
The Fortezza da Basso, venue of the event, is located in the heart of Florence, just a few steps away from the Duomo and the Santa Maria Novella railway station, and just 4 km from the international airport. Florence is a city easily explored on foot, with all the main attractions conveniently reachable from the Fortezza.
The Fair is easily accessible by tram and other public transportation connecting the city centre with the suburbs. Bicycles and scooters can also be rented and bike-sharing service is available.
The T1 and T2 tramway stops are located in front of the Fortezza da Basso, providing quick access to various areas of the city.
For those arriving by car from the motorway, you can reduce your environmental impact by leaving your vehicle at the "Drive and Tramway" parking lot at the Villa Costanza exit (A1) or at the Viale Guidoni parking lot (A11), and continuing conveniently by tram.
Firenze Fiera sources its electricity entirely from renewable sources, and is gradually replacing its light bulbs with low-energy LED lights.
